She's here!

Our new dog, Tess, has finally arrived. She joined us Sunday night and has been a great addition to the family. She's only peed inside once, of course it was on the carpet in the only room in the house that has carpet. Now we have a nice spot to remember her arrival. She's been a finicky eater, hopefully once she gets adjusted to us that will improve. She is the most low key dog I've ever met. She's 56lbs and as tall as my mid-thigh, all legs, though. She definitely doesn't seem or act like a BIG dog.

Greyhounds are typically called 40 mile an hour couch potato. She's definitely shown us her couch potato side, sleeping most of the time. She does play a few times a day, but only for a few minutes. She tosses around her stuffed pig or cow and makes them oink and moo, respectively. Tess will bat them around with her paws or her nose and flip them in the air. It's hilarious, I've never seen anything like it, it doesn't look like your typical dog play.

Last night, we rode our bikes in the basement and wanted her to join us. So, she wasn't too fond of the stairs to the basement, not too sure why, but it was definitely a struggle. Pulling from the front and pushing from the rear, she finally made it down. After exploring, what did she do? Lay down and go to sleep. What a funny girl. Going up the stairs was pretty much the same story. I think she was happy to be back up. She does keep eyeing up the stairs going upstairs, but not sure if she REALLY wants to check it out. We won't push that one, but we'll see how long she'll continue to be curious.

Another thing she's been quite curious about - my yarn and knitting needles. I think I have my mother-in-law to thank for that. When the in-laws came to visit, Kathy proceeded to wave the yarn in front of Tess, telling her what a great toy this would be. Well, she went for it the next day. I guess that can't sit out any longer.

Since greyhounds are very thin skinned, we had to get a coat for her ASAP. My dear friend Amy is quite the dog seamstress and whipped up a pretty pink fleece coat. She's so cute in it. Mind you, this is a necessary accessory, not just frivolous dress up!
