The Devil Wears Prada

I saw The Devil Wears Prada today. I usually am not a proponent of seeing the movie before reading the book, but it was a last minute movie trip. It was a cute story.

Meryl Strep portrays the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine who is known as the Dragon Lady. Supposedly, this is supposed to be modeled after the editor-in-chief of Vogue. She really is a demanding boss. I definitely wouldn't want to work for here. Anne Hathaway is the assistant #2 working under her who is only trying to get into journalism in New York. She makes a vow to herself to stick it out and not let the Dragon Lady get to her. Throughout her time at Runway, she acquires a new sense of style, forgets about her friends, and ditches her boyfriend. She does come to realize the "real person" side of Strep.

There are some good comedic elements to the movie. Both Strep and Hathaway play their roles well, although I had a hard time believing Hathaway was so couture towards the end of the movie. The story line is pretty good, though. It was a cute story, but wait until video. The boys most likely won't like this one.

I'd give it a B+.

Thanks for the movie review, I'll definitely rent it (when there's no Jim around!)
