Triathlons here I come! Maybe.

Well, I am offically a TriBabe now. I made my first official contributions this week both monetarily and physically. Our local YMCA has a training group for women who are interested in Triathlons. I saw the sign when they first started, but didn't know if I was ready for committment. Now that Chris' major focus has been on triathlons and seeing who does tris, I thought I might give it a tri (ha, ha).

Initially, I had my sights set on a super sprint, which is a 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 1 mile run. A traditional sprint tri is 1/2 mile swim, about 12 mile bike, and 5k run (3.1 miles). I've run a handful of 5Ks, biked my fair share of miles, but swimming?? I'm still working on that. And then the kicker... doing all three, in that order, one after another? I'm still a little wary.

So, I'm counting on this group of friendly ladies for a little encouragement. Chris seems to think I have the ability. I guess it's a little daunting, as are all new things.

I've completed my first 3 workouts of base training and I'm still alive and still walking. There are 4 levels of the training plan. Obviously, I'm taking swimming at level 1 'cause I'm still working on it. My running is a level 2 since I already have a few races under my belt, and biking is level 3. Thank goodness for those years of competitive cycling to feel comfortable in that area. Cyclocross sure helped this fall to get me motivated to jump back on the bike.

I think my mp3 player is charged enough now, so it's time to pound the pavement and take care of my run for the day.

Good luck Dria! You can do it and I will live vicariously through you because I know I could not.
